Dr. Weinzapfel completed her Bachelor of Science in Biology and Neuroscience at Indiana University, Bloomington. She studied epigenetic mechanisms of intestinal development and cancer at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine earning her Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology in 2015. Her post doctoral research in immunology and long-noncoding RNAs was completed at The Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine. While at Jackson Labs, she wrote for the JAX Blog about women in science, including Dr. Elizabeth Stern. This particular article caught the eye of Janet Williamson, Dr. Stern’s daughter, leading to additional research and countless conversations about Dr. Stern’s work, an article on the Scientific American Voices Blog, and the website you are reading now. Dr. Weinzapfel currently works as a scientific writer and product manager in Research Triangle Park, NC.
